Visit any serious competition and you will see shooters weighing pellets on jeweller’s scales and sorting them into batches. Does it help? Sometimes — and it depends on your goals.
At the very top of the sport, where a single point decides a podium, removing weight outliers shaves the last fraction of dispersion from a group. For these shooters, sorting is a rational edge.
For the rest of us, the bigger win comes from buying a pellet with tight factory tolerances to begin with. If the pellets leave the tin already consistent in weight and head size, the marginal benefit of hand-sorting shrinks dramatically.
Our advice: start with quality, test for your rifle’s favourite, and only reach for the scale if you are genuinely competing for tenths.
