Pellet weight is the variable shooters tinker with most — and for good reason. The right grain weight for your rifle can shrink groups dramatically; the wrong one wastes good barrels.
As a rule of thumb, lower-powered spring and gas-ram rifles prefer lighter to mid-weight pellets that they can push to a stable velocity. High-power PCPs, with energy to spare, often shoot heavier pellets more accurately because the extra mass settles down quickly and resists wind.
Remember that a rifle’s advertised velocity is measured with the lightest ammunition. Load a heavier hunting pellet and real-world FPS drops — but energy on target frequently rises, which is what matters for humane hunting.
There is no substitute for testing. Buy two or three weights in the same model, shoot five-shot groups at your usual distance, and let the paper decide. Our Doom and Match families are offered in multiple weights precisely so you can tune to your platform.
