The pre-charged pneumatic rifle continues to define the cutting edge of airgunning, and three trends stand out as we move through 2026.
First, regulators have gone mainstream. By holding a constant pressure behind each shot, a regulator flattens the velocity curve and delivers a long string of near-identical shots — a gift for both competition and consistency-minded hunters.
Second, the long-range movement — driven by PRS and NRL22-style competition — is pulling rifles toward higher power, faster twist rates and slug compatibility.
Third, and easy to overlook, is ammunition matching. As rifles grow more capable, the gap between a great pellet and a mediocre one widens. The more precise the platform, the more it reveals every inconsistency in what you feed it.
