Marketing loves a big feet-per-second number, but velocity alone tells you little. What matters downrange is energy and where the pellet lands.
Those headline FPS figures are achieved with the lightest possible alloy pellets, sometimes at the expense of accuracy. Load a quality lead pellet of sensible weight and velocity drops — yet the pellet flies more stably and hits harder where it counts.
Energy, not speed, is what humanely takes quarry and rings steel. A heavier pellet at a moderate velocity often carries more usable energy to the target than a feather-light pellet screaming off the muzzle and shedding speed fast.
