Airgun hunting carries an obligation: to take quarry quickly and humanely. Marksmanship is the foundation, but pellet choice is a close second.
For hunting, energy delivered on target matters more than raw muzzle velocity. A heavier domed or purpose-built hunting pellet retains energy and penetrates reliably, where an ultra-light target pellet may not. Knowing your rifle’s real energy with your chosen pellet — not the box figure — is essential.
Just as important is range discipline. Diabolo pellets are devastatingly effective inside their comfortable envelope and increasingly unreliable beyond it. Know the distance at which your rifle and pellet still group tightly and retain killing energy, and refuse shots past it.
Finally, check your local law. Power limits, licensing and permitted quarry vary widely by country and region. Responsible hunting is legal hunting.
