.177 (4.5 mm) is lighter and faster, with a flatter trajectory that is forgiving of small range-estimation errors. It is the dominant target caliber and a fine choice for precise field shooting and small pests.
.22 (5.5 mm) is heavier and slower, with a more curved trajectory but greater energy and a larger wound channel. Many hunters prefer it for its decisive terminal performance at sensible ranges.
